About the role

The Sr Business Analyst, Business Unit Accounting at PenFed is responsible for providing a strong finance, accounting, and technology mindset. They will partner with Accounting and Finance leadership and other business partners to ensure business areas are processing activities in an optimal manner, identify opportunities for simplification and efficiency, eliminate duplication of effort, and assess the appropriate balance of risk and control.

Responsibilities

  • Support the business goals in the accounting area of producing monthly, quarterly, and year-end activity and associated reporting.
  • Support data mining, data modeling, process mapping, and financial reporting efforts within the accounting area.
  • Research, gather, and synthesize data; present conclusions and recommendations to management and/or team members.
  • Analyze financial data and accounting processes to identify trends, inefficiencies, and risks; recommend solutions that improve accuracy, timeliness, and automation.
  • Under direction of Manager(s) or Director(s) in Business Unit Accounting, support the execution of projects to optimize all elements of the accounting organization including but not limited to: Business Process Modernization, Shared Services Implementation, Business Case Development, Finance Automation, Internal Control Development, Finance Technology Selection, Implementation & Deployment.
  • Proactively engage and collaborate with functional leaders, process owners, system users, and business leadership across the company to ensure that assessment, requirements-gathering, design, and implementation activities are developed, implemented, and validated with stakeholder input.
  • Translate business needs into technical requirements, guide the design of and test new or changing technology solutions.
  • Support the development of Finance/Accounting metrics associated with core projects to support management, financial and regulatory reporting.
  • Support the development of documentation, procedures, and applicable training materials for new departmental processes.
  • Prepare presentations and memos for stakeholders and team members.
  • Mentor, lead junior staff.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance with a senior level of competency.
  • Working understanding of GAAP accounting principles, financial statements, and internal control frameworks.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience in consulting, financial services, banking, or credit unions.
  • Minimum of one (1) years’ experience implementing finance applications, loan applications and/or ERP systems.
  • Demonstrated data analysis skills and the ability to understand the business processes and data.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication and organizational skills required with ability to work with all management levels.
  • Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously and implement changes in project direction.
  • Advanced experience in Microsoft Office Excel. Advanced Experience in or strong willingness to learn Tableau, SQL, Evolv, Snowflake, Sigma, BlackLine, and other data tools and software.
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems.
  • Ability and willingness to train junior analysts.
  • Experience in the development of deliverables and reports and ability to condense highly technical subject matter into clear and effective communications.
  • High degree of initiative and personal ownership.
  • Experience in using A.I. tools preferred.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will not supervise employees.
