About the role
You will develop and maintain suspicious activity detection models to safeguard Capital One from fraud and money laundering. Risk management is central to our operations, and the AML team plays a crucial role in managing financial and compliance risks.
Responsibilities
- Analyze customer and transactional data to identify opportunities for improving risk detection
- Communicate recommendations to leaders through memos and presentations
- Support specific risk models designed to highlight suspicious activity - spanning the Card, Bank and COAF lines of business
Requirements
- At least 2 years of professional experience performing analysis
- Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining one of the following with an expectation that the required degree will be obtained on or before the scheduled start date:
- A Bachelor's Degree in a quantitative field (Business, Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer engineering, Software engineering, Mechanical engineering, Information Systems or a related quantitative field)
- A Master's Degree in a quantitative field (Business, Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical engineering, Information Systems or a related quantitative field)
- A Master’s Degree in Business or quantitative field such as Finance, Economics, Physical Sciences, Math, Statistics, Engineering
- Master’s Degree in Business or quantitative field such as Finance, Economics, Physical Sciences, Math, Statistics, Engineering
- 1+ years of experience in Statistical model building
- 1+ years of experience in market research
- 1+ years of experience in SQL querying
- 2+ years of experience in business analysis
- 1+ years of experience in consulting
Qualifications
- Analytical Skills: Comfortable exploring raw data and drawing conclusions about customer behavior and risk signals
- Communication: Can translate detailed analysis into easy-to-understand findings that leaders can digest and act upon
- Collaboration: Able to balance the input and needs of diverse groups of stakeholders to reach an optimal result for everyone involved

Pay
Salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting.
- Mclean, VA: $111,200 - $126,900 for Sr. Business Analyst
- Richmond, VA: $101,100 - $115,400 for Sr. Business Analyst
