Responsibilities
- Administer Power BI tenants including Premium/Fabric capacity, workspace lifecycle, gateway management, and deployment pipelines across dev, test, and production environments.
- Design and maintain governance frameworks for federated Power BI deployments — defining workspace topology, naming conventions, dataset ownership, and cross-team publishing standards.
- Design and implement enterprise-grade RBAC across Power BI, Fabric, and Snowflake — ensuring consistent identity governance from source to consumer.
- Build and maintain certified semantic models as the single source of truth for enterprise KPIs and business metrics.
- Establish dataset certification standards, versioning, and deprecation workflows to manage the semantic model lifecycle.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, Fabric Git integration, and the Power BI REST API to automate deployment, testing, and rollback.
- Define SLIs/SLOs for report load time, dataset refresh success rate, agent response latency, capacity utilization, and API availability; own incident response runbooks.
- Define and track platform adoption KPIs: active report consumers, dataset utilization rates, agent query volume and satisfaction scores, and cost-per-active-user.
Requirements
- 7+ years in BI platform engineering, data engineering, or analytics infrastructure roles.
- 3+ years focused on Power BI administration at enterprise scale (1,000+ users, 500+ reports, multi-workspace environments).
- Hands-on Microsoft Fabric experience including workspaces, Lakehouse, semantic models, and Fabric AI skills or Copilot Studio configuration.
- Experience building or configuring at least one Fabric AI skill or Copilot Studio agent connected to enterprise data (Lakehouse, semantic model, or external API).
- Hands-on Snowflake experience: SQL, warehouse management, RBAC, and DirectQuery / Fabric pipeline integration.
- Proven track record leading at least one large-scale BI migration end-to-end.
- RBAC/RLS design across Power BI service and source systems, including extending security governance to AI-surfaced data.
- SRE or reliability practice experience in a data/analytics context — including on-call rotations and runbooks.
- Advanced DAX authoring, Power Query M optimization, and semantic model performance tuning.
- Snowflake Cortex Analyst, Semantic Views, or Cortex Search experience.
- Copilot Studio — custom connector authoring, Power Automate integration, multi-step agent flows.
- dbt, Cube.dev, or other semantic layer frameworks.
- Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and BI/agent telemetry pipelines.
- Kimball dimensional modeling or medallion lakehouse architecture patterns.
