SR Backend Engineer

About the role

Sphere Laboratories, Inc. is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in backend development, experience with modern web technologies, and a passion for building scalable and efficient systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement high-performance backend services using microservices architecture
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, designers, and other engineers
• Optimize database queries and improve overall system performance
• Develop and maintain RESTful APIs
• Implement security measures to protect sensitive data
• Contribute to code reviews and mentoring junior engineers

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Experience with at least one major programming language (e.g., Java, Python, Go)
• Strong understanding of relational databases and SQL
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure)
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines

Qualifications

• Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders
• Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Knowledge of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)

Skills

• Proficiency in backend frameworks (Node.js, Django, Flask)
• Experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra)
• Understanding of distributed systems and microservices
• Experience with testing frameworks (JUnit, pytest)
• Knowledge of serverless architectures (AWS Lambda, Google Cloud Functions)
