Opportunity Summary
The Sr Semiconductor Automation Equipment Engineer supports the performance, reliability, and integration of fab automation systems within Micron’s Manassas manufacturing environment. This role partners with Manufacturing, Equipment Engineering, Facilities, IT, and automation vendors to resolve automation-related issues, improve material flow, and support stable, high-throughput production. The position applies data-driven problem solving, technical judgment, and clear communication to sustain automation systems and drive continuous improvement across semiconductor manufacturing operations.
What’s Encouraged Daily
- Monitor and sustain automation equipment performance, including AMHS flow, tool interfaces, system availability, and automation-driven process delays.
- Troubleshoot complex automation and material handling issues involving robotics, conveyors, stockers, controllers, sensors, and software interfaces using structured root cause analysis.
- Develop, document, and implement Engineering Change Notices for automation system changes, upgrades, and configuration improvements.
- Analyze recurring automation failure modes, system interruptions, utilization trends, and bottlenecks to identify corrective actions and continuous improvement opportunities.
- Support automation equipment availability, tool-to-tool material flow, system qualifications, holds, releases, and manufacturing ramp activities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and automation vendors to resolve issues, communicate status, and improve system performance.
- Promote a strong safety culture by following and reinforcing safety and environmental requirements related to automated equipment and material movement systems.
How To Qualify
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
- Working knowledge of robotics, motion control, electrical systems, sensors, industrial networks, and electronic test equipment.
- Demonstrated analytical and data-driven problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
- Proficiency using data analysis or process control tools such as Excel, JMP, SPACE, or similar systems.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and operational teams.
What Sets You Apart
- Experience supporting fab automation systems, AMHS, material handling equipment, robotics, stockers, controllers, sensors, or tool interface systems.
- Experience troubleshooting automation equipment issues and applying structured root cause analysis in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience developing or supporting Engineering Change Notices, system upgrades, equipment qualifications, or configuration changes.
- Experience and/or interest in developing Agentic AI workflows into current or future processes to improve efficiency, automation monitoring, troubleshooting, or data-driven decision making.
- Able to work effectively with Manufacturing, Equipment Engineering, Facilities, IT, and external automation vendors to support stable production and continuous improvement.
