Sr AI/ML Engineer
About the role
Kopius is seeking a Senior AI/ML Engineer to join our team on a 6-month engagement — with strong likelihood of extension — supporting a leading healthcare services organization. This role focuses on designing and deploying AI and generative-AI solutions on Azure, standing up the team's new AI initiatives alongside an application rewrite, with production-grade deployment, optimization, and guardrails.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and deploy AI/ML and generative-AI solutions in production
- Implement LLM-based features and RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) pipelines using Azure AI services
- Deploy, optimize, and monitor models (MLOps) on Azure Machine Learning
- Work with data engineers on embedding and vector pipelines and data readiness for AI workloads
- Integrate AI capabilities into the .NET application; evaluate outputs and set guardrails for reliable, responsible AI
- Pioneer best practices around AI evaluation, monitoring, cost management, and responsible AI
- Partner with full-stack and data engineers on production integration and observability
- Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and architectural discussions
- Participate in troubleshooting and resolving production issues, contributing to root cause analysis and long-term reliability improvements
Basic Qualifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across distributed teams
- Self-motivated, quick learner, and adaptable to new technologies and rapidly evolving AI tooling
- Thrives in a team environment, actively contributes to collaboration, fosters a sense of community
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a keen eye for detail and a proactive approach to issue resolution
- Bridges ideas proactively — not just a ticket executor, but a contributor to the broader AI direction of the team
- Strong sense of accountability and ownership over deliverables and outcomes
- Comfort operating in healthcare or other regulated data environments where security, compliance, and responsible AI matter
- Self-directed operator — able to hit the ground running with minimal ramp
Technical Requirements
- Senior-level, hands-on experience with Python for AI/ML
- Hands-on experience with LLMs and Generative AI — RAG patterns, prompt engineering, and AI frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex, Semantic Kernel, or similar)
- Deep, hands-on experience with Azure OpenAI Service, Azure AI / Cognitive Services, and Azure Machine Learning
- Experience with model deployment, optimization, and MLOps — CI/CD for ML, model monitoring, and performance management
- Hands-on experience with vector databases and embeddings (Azure AI Search, Pinecone, Weaviate, or similar)
- Understanding of AI evaluation methods, guardrails, and responsible AI practices
- Proficiency with Git and modern CI/CD workflows
Nice to have
- Experience integrating AI capabilities into .NET applications
- Familiarity with Azure AI Foundry
- Experience with fine-tuning, model distillation, or agent architectures
- Experience in healthcare, life sciences, or other regulated industries
