Sr. Aerodynamics Engineer

About the role

Ford's Aerodynamics team is seeking an exceptional Aerodynamics Engineer to contribute to the development of ground-breaking new products. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in aerodynamic development, CFD, and experimental testing.

Responsibilities

• Create aerodynamically efficient designs and redefine automotive possibilities
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners in Design, Vehicle Engineering, and Program Management to meet aerodynamic targets
• Work alongside Designers to ensure aesthetic and aerodynamic efficiency
• Evaluate and refine designs using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and experimental methods
• Develop and execute wind tunnel, road, and track test programs
• Optimize part execution for aerodynamics and resolve design conflicts
• Create and develop tools and methods used within the Aerodynamics team

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience
• 5+ years of experience in aerodynamic development
• 5+ years using CFD and experimental testing, such as wind tunnel or road testing
• 3+ years creating and manipulating 3D surfaces in CAD

Preferred Requirements

• Masters or PhD degree in Aerospace/Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering
• Detailed technical knowledge of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) fundamentals
• Active user of LLMs
• Ability to communicate complex aerodynamics concepts and goals to cross-functional partners
• Track record of creating and developing novel aerodynamic concepts
• Automotive or Motorsport industry experience
• A passion for sustainable energy or solving technical challenges

Pay

This position is a salary grade 8 and ranges from $138,800-$232,700. Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.

Schedule

The position is hybrid with a requirement to be onsite four or more days per week.
