About the role

As a Sr. Advanced Project Engineer – Avionics Systems at Honeywell Aerospace, you will lead and manage engineering projects across the global Communication, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) domain. You will define project scope, objectives, and deliverables in collaboration with cross-functional teams, develop and implement project plans, and ensure efficient project execution and delivery. This role reports directly to the Director of Project Engineering and is based in Deer Valley, Arizona, with a hybrid work schedule.

The CNS team is a large global team with design centers in Deer Valley, Arizona; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Bangalore and Hyderabad, India; Bruno, Czech Republic; and Beijing, China. The team designs, builds, and maintains critical safety systems for the aerospace industry, including weather radar, ground proximity warning systems, instrumented landing systems, communication, datalink and navigation radios, transponders, traffic collision avoidance systems, and radar altimeters.

Responsibilities

  • Lead teams in the development of proposals, statements of work, and associated cost estimates.
  • Serve as the technical point of contact for customers and the program manager.
  • Define and implement project scope, objectives, deliverables, schedules, and resource forecasting in Microsoft Project.
  • Monitor project progress and ensure adherence to timelines and budgets using Earned Value Management (EVM) metrics.
  • Lead a robust risk management process to identify and mitigate risks and issues that may impact project delivery.
  • Contain scope growth through robust baseline change management.
  • Coordinate and communicate with stakeholders to provide project updates and address concerns.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project management processes and practices.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 years of related experience in project engineering, project/program management, product design and development, NPI, or systems engineering.
  • Experience developing avionics or software products for the aerospace market.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as sciences, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status, or the ability to obtain an export authorization) due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience developing commercial or military avionics systems like Military/Commercial TCAS or ADS-B Transponder.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
  • Ability to lead teams to fast, practical solutions using Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to manage changing project requirements.
  • Passion for innovation and continuous learning.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for customer and internal Honeywell meetings.
  • Advanced degree preferred.
