About the Role
This is an intermediate-level position requiring increasing technical expertise and decision-making. The role involves independently identifying trends and issues, contributing to project work within the functional area, and occasionally seeking support from a manager or mentor on complex analysis. There are no direct reports associated with this position.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and analyze intermediate to complex data for actuarial experience studies, valuation, or pricing projects
- Provide significant support for the development of pricing and underwriting tools, and assist others in understanding underwriting case-specific issues by answering technical questions
- Develop reserve factors, analyze reserves, and monitor reserve changes
- Support maintenance of the valuation system
- Assist in the preparation of financial reports, tax returns, and state filings as needed
- Contribute to product development and repricing initiatives
- Collaborate with product, underwriting, compliance, risk management, investments, and other areas on specific initiatives; communicate project status within the functional area
- Prepare intermediate to complex reports
- Demonstrate commitment to career development and growing financial acumen by pursuing actuarial credentials and membership in the Society of Actuaries
- Continuously assess established training and work processes to identify areas for effectiveness and efficiency improvements
- Communicate trends and issues identified and proactively recommend resolutions to management
- Work on and/or lead special projects requiring actuarial research and analysis, potentially partnering with other business areas both in and out of finance
- Maintain and build specialized working knowledge of company operations, systems, and the actuarial discipline
- Serve as an informal leader/mentor to junior peers and train interns
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Credit for at least four actuarial exams
- 1–2+ years of hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge of business analysis, pricing, valuation, ALM, or corporate experience
- Strong problem-solving ability and developing project management skills
- Hands-on experience with current technology (Excel, one programming language, plus mainframe systems or database utility)
- Solid written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership ability
Pay
The base salary range for this position is $73,300–$150,500. Actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location, and experience.
