About the role
We are looking for a Senior Technical Accountant to join the Virgin Galactic Accounting and Financial Reporting team. Your role will be critical in achieving our overall objective of delivering timely and accurate financial reporting.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of SEC filings including the Company’s 10-Q, 10-K, Earnings Release and Proxy; coordinates information from others and maintains support that ties to the final report.
- Analyze the Company’s financial statements and provide a narrative for the MD&A as well as fluctuation analysis for the outside auditors and internal management.
- Prepare the Company’s consolidated trial balance, statement of cash flows, statement of stockholders equity and EPS.
- Track and assess new ASC and SEC disclosure requirements and update disclosures accordingly.
- Aid in technical accounting research for any complex, unusual, and/or significant transactions and provide technical accounting guidance across all functions, ensuring compliance with applicable GAAP and disclosure requirements; provide findings to management and participate in discussions with external auditors.
- Experience with complex accounting transactions, including but not limited to equity, stock-based compensation, asset impairment, debt and revenue recognition.
- Prepare technical accounting memos, as needed.
- Maintain focus on timeliness and execution of tasks and deliverables every day.
Requirements
- Experience with complex accounting transactions, including but not limited to equity, stock-based compensation, asset impairment, debt and revenue recognition.
- Experience with preparing SEC filings and financial statements.
- Experience with technical accounting research and compliance with GAAP and disclosure requirements.
- Experience with financial modeling and analysis.
- Experience with financial statement audits and coordination with external auditors.
- Experience with SOX 404 compliance and documentation of processes and procedures.
- Experience with journal entries and reconciliations.
- Experience with stock compensation accounting and equity administration.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or related field.
- 5+ years of relevant financial accounting experience within large public accounting firm and/or corporate/industry experience.
- Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Strong understanding of US GAAP.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- A high degree of attention to detail.
- Willingness to adjust thinking and behavior.
- Ability to communicate in a manner that is timely, respectful, and open to other ideas.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Accounting or Finance.
- CPA certification.
- Experience with Workiva, Oracle and Fidelity.
