About the Role
The Senior Account Manager maintains professional relationships with clients through exceptional customer service. They manage a book of business primarily consisting of level-funded and self-funded accounts, ensuring clients' needs and expectations are met. The role supports sales agents in generating new business and renewing existing accounts while serving as an advocate for clients and their employees.
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary contact between client, prospect, agency, and producer; represent the agency in handling complaints, arbitrating disputes, or resolving grievances.
- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and execution of self-funded accounts.
- Handle or refer all service requests from clients.
- Initiate and manage the marketing of accounts beginning 120 days before renewal; gather necessary information for new or existing accounts and submit to appropriate carriers to obtain proposals.
- Investigate carrier products, analyze client data, and recommend suitable plans and proposals.
- Review proposals for accuracy and collaborate with the Producer to generate proposal presentations using spreadsheets and exhibits.
- Calculate premiums, payroll deductions, and audit billing statements for accuracy on behalf of clients.
- Generate open enrollment materials, including enrollment guides, election forms, personalized confirmation sheets, and PowerPoint presentations for client meetings.
- Attend and present at local enrollments or client meetings as necessary.
- Process necessary paperwork for carrier submission and ensure a smooth transition between carriers.
- Update all accounts in the agency management system when clients change carriers or complete renewals.
- Set priorities and manage workflow to ensure efficient, timely, and accurate processing of transactions.
- Maintain knowledge of new developments or changes with carriers and Federal/State laws affecting client benefit administration; communicate updates to clients and team members.
- Ensure client accounts remain compliant, including educating clients and executing compliance requirements and deadlines.
- Identify product opportunities for new business.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with insurance carriers to meet clients' needs and facilitate business processing.
- Maintain accurate and consistent agency files; process incoming mail requests swiftly.
- Attend and complete required training sessions or assignments.
- Perform other related tasks as needed.

Requirements
- 5+ years of employee benefits and account management experience in the insurance field, including a strong understanding of current employee benefits, regulations, and industry standards.
- Experience with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and Employment Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) preferred.
- Experience with fully-insured financial arrangements and alternate-funding methods preferred.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- Active Life & Health License required.
- Industry-related designations preferred.
Skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Applied Epic experience preferred; knowledge of similar Account Management Systems (AMS) acceptable.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 25 pounds.
- Repeated use of sight to read documents and computer screens.
- Repeated use of hearing and speech to communicate on the telephone and in person.
- Repetitive hand movements, such as keyboarding, writing, and 10-key.
