Key Responsibilities
- Migrate legacy Sybase databases to SQL Server (on premise)
- Modernize on-prem SQL Server workloads to Microsoft Azure
- Analyze legacy database schemas, objects, and code redesign where required for SQL Server Azure compatibility
- Identify and mitigate migration risks, including data integrity, downtime, and performance issues
Required Skills
- 8 - 10 years of hands-on experience in SQL Server database administration and development
- Strong experience in Sybase to SQL Server migration projects
- Proven expertise in On-prem SQL Server to Azure cloud migrations
- Deep understanding of SQL Server architecture, tuning, and troubleshooting
- Strong experience with database migration tools (DMA, DMS, SSMA, custom scripts)
- Hands-on experience with Azure SQL services and cloud database architecture
Technical Proficiency
- SQL Server (On Prem) Installation, configuration, upgrades, patching
- Azure SQL (PaaS IaaS) Backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies
- Monitoring and performance tuning
- Data validation and reconciliation post-migration
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft Azure Certifications (AZ 104, DP 300, AZ 305 preferred)
- Experience with DevOps CI/CD pipelines for databases
- Knowledge of containerization or infrastructure-as-code (ARM, Bicep, Terraform) is a plus
- Strong documentation and communication skills
