About the role

Join BerryDunn as an Outsourced Accounting Intern and gain hands-on experience managing a variety of client assignments and projects. Your work will include preparing and compiling financial statement engagements, full-scope general ledger processing, payables/receivables, bank reconciliations, recording bank and credit card activity, vendor inquiries, processing deposits, and recording journal entries. You will also assist with month-end and quarter-end closing procedures across multiple clients.

This internship offers the opportunity to work with clients across diverse industries such as Health Care, Not-for-Profit, Real Estate, Renewable Energy & Natural Resources, and Technology & Manufacturing. You will collaborate closely with experienced staff, seniors, managers, and principals on engagements.

Primary office locations include Portland, ME; Bangor, ME; Manchester, NH; or Waltham, MA, with a hybrid schedule option combining remote and in-office work.

Available internship periods:

  • Spring 2027: January 5, 2027 – April 16, 2027
  • Summer 2027: May 25, 2027 – August 6, 2027

Responsibilities

  • Perform attestation work, including compilations and preparing financial statement engagements.
  • Assist with month-end and quarter-end closes for multiple client engagements, including maintenance of prepaids, accruals, depreciation, and other GAAP accounting adjustments.
  • Prepare GAAP work papers and trial balances.
  • Apply basic GAAP accounting and work through complex GAAP accounting with team assistance.
  • Process payables for multiple clients and produce payable reports/checks with approval.
  • Maintain receivables for multiple clients and process deposits.
  • Record bank and credit card transactional activity in QuickBooks.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and monitor cash balances.
  • Understand and adhere to the firm’s policies and procedures.
  • Establish effective work schedules and work as a team member to complete project components.
  • Actively pursue self-development opportunities aligned with the competency model.
  • Build strong team relationships and act as an ambassador to universities.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a BA/BS degree in Accounting (preferred).
  • Flexibility to adapt to various tasks and challenges with a positive attitude.
  • Willingness to learn and seek advice from team members.
  • Ambition to develop skills and contribute to the team.
  • Commitment to work a minimum of 24 hours per week.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple ongoing assignments.
  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

Pay

The hourly rate for this role is $30 per hour. The final rate may vary based on experience, education, qualifications, and other relevant factors.
