About the role
Seeking a Materials Science Co‑Op to assist materials research in the Tube Fittings Division (TFD) of Parker Hannifin Corporation in Columbus, OH. The student will work closely with the Materials Science Engineer to support development of new products, quality, and processing improvement of current products.
Responsibilities
- Perform mechanical tests of a variety of properties including hardness, tensile, fracture toughness, etc.
- Prepare and analyze metallographic samples for ferrous and non‑ferrous alloys.
- Assist failure analysis on products from testing and field application.
- Conduct chemical analysis to measure the chemical composition of alloys.
- Collect, analyze, and summarize data to support professional test reports.
- Maintain a safe testing environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
- Help with other miscellaneous engineering tasks.
Qualifications
- At least 2 years of education toward a bachelor’s degree in Materials Science or related engineering disciplines.
- GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- U.S. citizenship (or appropriate status per import & export regulations).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High degree of mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to perform in a team environment.
- Personal computer skills including MS Office, email, and the Internet.
- Experience in a materials testing laboratory environment preferred.
