Position Summary

RGS Landscape & Arbor Care is seeking an experienced Spray Technician Supervisor to oversee and perform pesticide, herbicide, fertilizer, and plant health care applications across commercial landscape maintenance properties and plant health care sites. This is a working supervisor position.

Primary Responsibilities

- Supervise and lead a team of spray technicians. - Plan and coordinate daily spray routes, schedules, and application work. - Perform pesticide, herbicide, fertilizer, and plant health care applications as needed. - Train technicians on safe chemical handling, proper application techniques, equipment operation, PPE use, and regulatory compliance. - Ensure all applications are completed according to product labels, SDS requirements, laws, regulations, and company standards. - Monitor field performance, coach technicians, and provide feedback. - Conduct safety inspections of job sites, equipment, vehicles, and application practices. - Mix, load, apply, and handle materials safely and accurately. - Maintain accurate application records, reports, timekeeping, job costing, and production documentation. - Use an electronic handheld device accurately and consistently for daily timekeeping, job costing, service documentation, application records, and other required field reporting. - Manage chemical inventory, including safe storage and maintaining proper stock levels. - Coordinate calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and upkeep of spray equipment. - Communicate professionally with clients, residents, vendors, supervisors, and team members. - Drive and operate company trucks and spray equipment safely and in accordance with company policy. - Participate in operations meetings and report schedules, progress, issues, and application outcomes.

Required Licenses and Experience

Qualified applicants must have: - California Department of Pesticide Regulation QAC or QAL certification. - Valid California driver’s license and auto insurance. - 5+ years of chemical application experience. - 2+ years of experience managing spray technicians or spray crews. - Strong knowledge of pesticide and fertilizer labels, SDS requirements, PPE, re-entry intervals, environmental precautions, and spill response. - Strong plant identification skills for common Southern California plants and trees. - Ability to diagnose common plant and tree pests, diseases, and environmental stressors. - Strong understanding of pesticide use, storage, transportation, application, and recordkeeping requirements. - Experience with spray equipment, including nozzles, calibration, pressure, drift control, mixing, handling, and troubleshooting. - Strong math skills for calculating application rates, treatment areas, and mix quantities. - Ability to train, coach, supervise, and hold technicians accountable. - Strong communication and customer service skills. - Ability to use handheld devices and software for timekeeping, job costing, service documentation, and compliance records. - Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Outlook. - Ability to read and write in English well enough to complete regulatory documentation and communicate safely. - Bilingual English/Spanish required.

Physical Requirements

This is an active field position. Applicants must be able to safely lift, carry, and handle materials up to 50 pounds and perform sustained physical work throughout the day, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, squatting, twisting, reaching, climbing, pushing, pulling, and working on uneven or sloped terrain. The position also requires repeatedly getting in and out of trucks and equipment, working outdoors, and wearing required PPE in accordance with company safety policies and applicable standards.

Working Conditions

Work is performed outdoors in varying weather and jobsite conditions, including heat, sun exposure, rain, wind, dust, fumes, noise, vibration, uneven terrain, public-access areas, moving vehicles, heavy equipment, and exposure to fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, insects, plants, and other landscape-related conditions. Work may occur on commercial properties, multifamily communities, resorts, retail centers, public rights-of-way, and other assigned locations.

Equipment Used

This position may require use of: - Company trucks and light- to medium-duty vehicles. - Spray rigs, hose reels, electric and gas diaphragm pumps, closed systems, and manual spray equipment. - Handheld electronic devices and company-provided cellphone. - Basic landscape tools and equipment. - Equipment used for loading, hauling, securing, and field setup.
