Sports Turf Specialist
About the role
The Sports Turf Specialist is responsible for the maintenance and management of high-quality athletic fields within the Facilities Management Department. This position provides direct supervision of student employees, ensures the efficient execution of daily maintenance operations, and collaborates with coaching staff to coordinate field maintenance activities.
Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and execute year-round maintenance practices for the Athletic Complex and associated athletic fields to ensure optimal playing conditions.
- Maintain landscape areas within the athletic complex.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues, staff, students, summer labor, contractors, vendors, and coaching personnel.
- Manage budgeting and resource allocation.
- Apply integrated pest management practices and maintain field conditions.
- Perform seasonal grounds-related duties such as leaf removal and snow/ice removal.
- Keep accurate inventory records of materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Assist with additional campus grounds duties and responsibilities as needed.
Requirements
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A bachelor’s or associate degree in Turfgrass Science/Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field is preferred.
Experience: At least two years of related experience are required. Experience working on highly maintained athletic fields or golf courses is strongly preferred.
Qualifications
Comprehensive understanding of sports turf management and proficient application of cultural practices necessary to sustain athletic fields and surrounding areas, including irrigation, fertilization, aeration, and related maintenance techniques.
Skills
Proficiency in integrated pest management practices, effective communication skills, and the ability to manage budgets and resources.
