Sports & Recreation Instructor

About the Role

At Riverview School, we believe that sports, recreation, and healthy living are central to helping our students grow, build confidence, and achieve independence. We are seeking an enthusiastic, proactive, and student-focused Sports & Recreation Instructor to join our dedicated community. In this role, you’ll mentor, guide, and empower adolescents and young adults with learning differences and intellectual disabilities. You will coordinate day-to-day recreation operations, lead intramural programming, and foster a high-energy, safe, and nurturing environment where every student can thrive.

Responsibilities

• Direct Instruction & Coaching: Lead engaging sports, fitness, and recreational activities tailored to unique learning styles. Spearhead intramural programming and wellness initiatives for both students and staff.
• Be a Positive Role Model: Embrace our en loco parentis philosophy, modeling positive participation and building meaningful, respectful connections.
• Promote Independence: Utilize individual wellness plans, monitor progress, and teach essential healthy living skills.
• Collaborate & Communicate: Partner closely with an interdisciplinary team (teachers, advisors, parents, and leadership) to ensure consistent, supportive student care.
• Explore & Adventure: Drive school vehicles (no special license required!) to transport students to exciting off-campus programs, field trips, and events.
• Keep Environments Safe: Maintain state-of-the-art fitness and sports equipment, oversee facility cleanliness, and utilize Safety Care training to ensure a secure environment.

Requirements

• Education & Experience: A degree in Physical Education, Sports Management, Recreation, or a related field—and/or hands-on experience working with children and adolescents with learning differences in a recreational setting or the willingness to engage in professional development to gain the necessary knowledge.
• Core Requirements: A current, valid driver's license and CORI clearance.
• Certifications: Current certifications in CPR, First Aid, EpiPen, and Fitness (or a willingness to obtain them).

Location & Schedule

East Sandwich, MA

Full-time, 11-month position (School Year, Summer School, & Orientation Days).

Pay

Salary Range: $21 to $24 per hour.
