Duties And Responsibilities
- Enforce the rules of the sport.
- Scorekeeping for the games.
- Maintain peace at games to ensure a fair and fun atmosphere.
Minimum Qualifications
- Be at least 16 years old.
- Be familiar with the rules of the sport they are officiating.
- Be physically able to perform the sport they are officiating.
- Have the ability to deal professionally and tactfully with the public.
Desirable Qualifications
- Certified by the National Body the sport they will work.
- Prior experience in officiating the sport they will work.
Nature of Work
The City of Rochester is currently accepting applications for this temporary/seasonal/limited appointment position which serves as a referee/umpire for various seasonal league sports organized by the Parks and Recreation Department. Duties include objectively enforcing the rules of the sport and keeping score. This position must be able to interact with the public in a professional, courteous, and helpful manner.
Work Schedule
Variety of positions are available, depending on the sport, with most games being held on evenings, Monday through Friday.
Indoor Volleyball
- Multiple seasons from September - May
Basketball
- November - March
Broomball
- January - February
Dodgeball
- January - March
Pay Rate
$20.49-$28.37 per game, depending on the sport and qualifications.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CRITERIA
