About the role
This role is a storyteller who has a passion for telling local, character-driven sports stories in the community. The Sports Anchor/MSJ will provide sports reports for KORV/KMAX news programs and online properties, participate in the selection of sports-related stories for presentation, and gather, assemble, and explain information on all assigned stories. Video shooting and editing is required. The Anchor/MSJ will interview guests and contributors, remain up-to-date with current events in sports and news, and make personal appearances to promote the station. You will cover and report live stories on location, write with a clear and engaging style, and use video and graphics to illustrate facts and ideas. A broad understanding of all sports and the ability to tell stories about athletes, teams, leagues, and issues—both local and national—is essential.
Responsibilities
- Provide sports reports for KORV/KMAX news programs and online properties
- Participate in the selection of sports-related stories for presentation to viewers
- Gather, assemble, and explain information on all assigned stories
- Shoot and edit video
- Interview guests and contributors appropriate to the stories being presented
- Remain up-to-date with current events in sports and news
- Make personal appearances to promote the station
- Cover and report live stories on location
- Write with a clear and engaging style, using video and graphics to illustrate facts and ideas
- Maintain a broad understanding of all sports and ability to tell stories about athletes, teams, leagues, and issues, both local and national
Requirements
- At least six years of comparable television experience, with a minimum of 3 years as a sports anchor in a local market or network television news
- In-depth presentation and oral communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of personnel
- Ability to do live reporting in an engaging and effective manner
- Familiarity with the California region is extremely helpful
- College degree required or equivalent experience
Physical Demands
- Must be able to operate a keyboard with accuracy and speed
- Must have a valid driver’s license in order to drive to reporting locations
Pay
The hiring salary range for this position is $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 and applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay depends on a variety of job-related factors, including geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
