Splicer II Fiber

About the role

At Ervin Cable Construction, LLC, the Fiber Splicer II completes the process of fusing optical fibers to maintain telecommunication networks. The splicing work is essential for keeping strong and reliable connections, ensuring data travels seamlessly through a continually growing network.

Location: Sherman, TX

Responsibilities

• Perform cable upgrades and splicing tasks, both aerial and underground.
• Test, activate, and troubleshoot the network’s circuit post‑installation.
• Ensure all splicing operations meet strict customer and industry standards.
• Upgrade existing fiber sheaths with new fiber sheaths.
• Mid‑sheath fibers for entry on loose tube or fiber sheaths.
• Cut away the sheath from existing cables to reach faulty connections, and remove the sheath and insulation from newly installed cables and wires.
• Provide guidance to other splicers, as needed.
• Complete basic daily maintenance of vehicles, including fluid checks.
• Document work performed through daily production reports, including marking up maps and keeping correct material usage records.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Authorization to work in the United States for this company.
• High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience.
• Valid state driver’s license (cannot be provisional) with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to pass a DOT physical exam and obtain a valid medical card.
• At least two years of fiber splicing experience.
• Certified pole climber or ability to demonstrate proficiency as a pole climber (preferred).
• Knowledge of telecommunications network structure.

Physical Abilities & Exposures

• Routinely work at heights, occasional entry into attics and crawl spaces, and alone in remote locations.
• Operate vehicles and heavy machinery; perform fine hand motions, bend, stoop, stand, walk, climb stairs, and lift up to 55 pounds without assistance.
• Occasionally work in confined spaces, use ladders and gaffs for climbing poles, and operate keyboard and mouse.
