About the Role

The Spiritual Counselor / Chaplain provides spiritual support to hospice patients and their families, facilitating grief, bereavement, and spiritual assessments in a collaborative, purpose-driven environment committed to diversity and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive spiritual needs assessments for patients and families
  • Support families through anticipatory grief and post-death bereavement processes
  • Act as liaison to patients' faith communities and respond to spiritual needs
  • Build relationships to empower patients’ spiritual journeys
  • Collaborate with other spiritual caregivers and support clergy involvement

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Ordained, credentialed, or commissioned by a recognized religious organization
  • Completion of three Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) units; CPE equivalencies accepted
  • Experience in hospice, medical, educational, or religious settings preferred
  • Strong cultural, theological, and inter-faith competence
  • Experience or education in grief/loss counseling
  • For certain states, minimum years of pastoral care experience required
