Spirit Defense - Mid-Level Assembly Mechanic (Underwing)

This role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, within Spirit’s Defense Business Unit (“Spirit Defense”). Responsibilities

• Assemble, form, functional test, and inspect parts and assemblies into end-items using drawings, documents, process specifications, quality control requirements, and established processes and procedures to ensure timely delivery of quality products.
• Perform multi-tasking where applicable and obtain required information from prints, charts, sketches, work instructions, documents, verbal, and electronic information.
• Use shop mathematics and precision measuring or test instruments to complete work assignments and functional test assemblies and components.
• Utilize tooling in the assembly of components into sub-assemblies or end items.
• Verify work performed aligns with work instructions and meets process and/or engineering specifications; identify discrepancies per applicable procedure.
• Ensure equipment and tool certification occurs per procedure.
• Perform routine minor machine maintenance (e.g., replacing filters, changing light bulbs, maintaining lubrication/coolant levels) as part of daily duties.
• Routinely move product within the immediate manufacturing work area, including across aisles, using shop-assigned equipment; complete transactions to move product to the next operation.
• On an exception basis, move product to the next operation within a building.
• Perform work within allotted schedules.
• Support continuous product flow by training and assisting employees at all classification levels.
• Assist in training other assembly personnel in assembly, installation, and inspection techniques.
• Cross-train in inspection and become SIA qualified.
• Disassemble and prepare assemblies for rework, repair, or change incorporation on completed assemblies.
• Drill, saw, file, sand, build up, trim, fit, and fasten parts to meet production requirements using hand or power tools.
• Fabricate, assemble, and install systems elements.
• Maintain or repair tools, shop aids, equipment, and facilities, including first-level maintenance on machines and equipment.

Requirements

• Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). A clearance active in the past 24 months is considered active.
• Ability to obtain Special Program Access.
• Willing and able to work any shift, including alternative work weeks and some weekends.
• Able to work on concrete floors, uneven surfaces, and in confined spaces, as well as walk on open floor beams, climb stairs/scaffolding, crawl/kneel in workstations, and lift/move parts and tools.

Qualifications

• Basic: Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required).
• Preferred: 6 months of aircraft structural sheet metal or composite assembly experience OR successful completion of Aero Structural Training.
• Preferred: Experience operating measurement and testing equipment, machines, and devices per established procedures.
• Preferred: Experience loading, locating, and unloading parts and assemblies.

Pay

Pay range: $23.66/hour, with potential to earn up to $39.32/hour in accordance with the terms of the relevant collective bargaining agreement.
