Role and Responsibilities

Direct, supervise, evaluate and provide speech therapy services to patients in the home, as prescribed by the attending physician.

  • Evaluate the patient’s speech, language and voice, and swallowing abilities according to referral and perform periodic reevaluation.
  • Develop and implement rehabilitative services for speech, language and voice, and swallowing disorders.
  • Select and administer diagnostic tests and provide appropriate therapeutic techniques and materials.
  • Record the type of treatment and patient’s reaction to it on the clinical/progress notes.
  • Maintain adequate records on all of the patients, including summary reports.
  • Instruct and educate family members and patient, regarding treatment plan and therapy carry-over.
  • Attend case conferences.
  • Participate in the development of and periodic revision of the physician’s plan of care.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Speech Pathology.
  • Must have "Certificate of Clinical Competency" from an accredited institution.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Current, valid license issued by NYS Department of Education.

Work Environment

The Speech Language Pathologist is primarily a non-office setting and may be exposed to outdoor conditions. The working conditions are classified as light work: Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Light work involves sitting most of the time.
