Role and Responsibilities
Direct, supervise, evaluate and provide speech therapy services to patients in the home, as prescribed by the attending physician.
- Evaluate the patient’s speech, language and voice, and swallowing abilities according to referral and perform periodic reevaluation.
- Develop and implement rehabilitative services for speech, language and voice, and swallowing disorders.
- Select and administer diagnostic tests and provide appropriate therapeutic techniques and materials.
- Record the type of treatment and patient’s reaction to it on the clinical/progress notes.
- Maintain adequate records on all of the patients, including summary reports.
- Instruct and educate family members and patient, regarding treatment plan and therapy carry-over.
- Attend case conferences.
- Participate in the development of and periodic revision of the physician’s plan of care.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Speech Pathology.
- Must have "Certificate of Clinical Competency" from an accredited institution.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Current, valid license issued by NYS Department of Education.
Work Environment
The Speech Language Pathologist is primarily a non-office setting and may be exposed to outdoor conditions. The working conditions are classified as light work: Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Light work involves sitting most of the time.
