Job Description Summary

Examines, tests, diagnoses and administers remedial treatments for patients with speech and hearing disorders. Initiates and/or completes patient assessments, updates progress and goals, documents charges, evaluates patients, modifies treatment approaches, gives in-services, supervises support personnel, participates in performance improvement projects, and participates in clinical education programs.

Responsibilities

  • Performs thorough assessments of patient’s functional conditions to set treatment plans with short and long-term goals.
  • Updates patient’s progress and goals, documenting charges and evaluations as observed by supervisor and other department personnel.
  • Completes and encourages patients to complete FOTO for admission, progress, and discharge within departmental policies and procedures.
  • Evaluates patients regarding various therapeutic techniques for speech, language, hearing, and oral motor disorders.
  • Records speech samples and conducts phonetic analyses of speech ability, recommending remedial treatments.
  • Works with supervisor to agree on treatment plans using corrective exercises and special equipment.
  • Provides at least one in-service annually to staff.
  • Supervises activities of support personnel as authorized by supervisor.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement projects.
  • Participates in the clinical education program as reported by the coordinator for clinical education.

Qualifications

  • Current Florida State SLP License.
  • CPR certification.
  • ASHA Membership.
  • Graduate from a Master’s Degree Program from an accredited University in accordance with state licensing requirements.
  • Successful completion of Certificate of Clinical Competency.
  • Taken or willing to take postgraduate education and/or clinical certifications in specialty areas (e.g., Swallowing, Voice, Communication, Neuro, Pediatrics).
  • A minimum of 12 months of clinical work experience (adult population preferred), or working towards approved projects with at least 15 CEHs per year in specialty areas.
