Responsibilities
- Evaluating levels of swallowing, speech and language difficulty
- Identifying treatment options
- Creating and carrying out individualized treatment plans addressing specific functional needs
- Teaching patients how to make sounds while improving their voices and maintaining fluency
- Helping individuals improve sentence structure and vocabulary used in written and oral language
- Working with adults and children in developing and strengthening muscles used to swallow
- Counseling individuals and families on ways to cope with swallowing and communication disorders
Requirements
- An active Indiana professional license for Speech Therapy
- Compassionate and Patient
- Strong interpersonal skills, especially when it comes to delivering sensitive information to patients and/or families.
- Able to think critically under pressure.
- Possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.
- Able to make independent decisions concerning above job duties.
- Possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family member, visitors, government agencies/personnel, vendors, and the general public.
- Knowledgeable of admissions, nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care.
