Job Description
The position is responsible for the evaluation and rehabilitation of patients with communication and oral-pharyngeal disorders of functional or neurological origin. It involves:
- Completing comprehensive evaluations with physician referrals
- Accurately interpreting evaluation findings
- Developing a written plan of care and treatment goals
- Implementing a speech/language pathology treatment program
- Re-assessing patient status and adjusting treatment plans as needed
- Communicating with patients, families, and professional colleagues
- Managing time effectively
- Presenting relevant topics in professional settings
- Documenting appropriately in the medical record
- Maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors
- Adhering to Memorial Hermann policies and procedures
- Maintaining professional growth through education and competency
- Serving as a mentor and resource to less experienced staff
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduate degree in Speech/Language Pathology from an accredited university-based program
- Current license to practice speech/language pathology by the State Board of Examiners for Speech Pathology and Audiology for Texas
- Current certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, preferred
- Current certification in Basic Life Support
Experience / Knowledge / Skills
- Fine hand dexterity, eye-hand coordination, ability to receive and communicate verbal and written information
- Ability to monitor instruments, computers, and equipment, recognize alphanumeric characters, distinguish colors, and observe physical characteristics
