Speech Pathologist (Per Diem)

When you join the growing BILH team, you're not just taking a job, you’re making a difference in people’s lives. Responsible for evaluation and treatment of communication and swallowing disorders affecting speech, voice, language and swallowing abilities in adults and pediatric patients.
In the acute care setting, provide evaluations and recommendations for patient’s candidacy for PO diet or need for non-oral nutritional support as well as assisting in speech and language screenings and recommendations for discharge needs. In the outpatient setting, carry a varied caseload including: pediatric speech and language disorders, voice disorders, professional voice care, augmentative communication evaluations, alaryngeal speech training, dysphagia, aphasia and dysarthria. This position cannot support Clinical Fellowship (CF) candidates.
Responsibilities
- Maintains comprehensive records regarding patient care in reports and correspondence both within the clinic and with outside healthcare providers.
- Maintains daily statistics and submits billing in timely order in compliance with department protocol.
- Provides comprehensive diagnostic and treatment for speech, voice and swallowing disorders.
- Participates in research projects coordinated by the Speech Pathologists in conjunction with the Medical Director of Otolaryngology.
- Attends and participates in continuing education within Lahey Clinic as well as outside conferences.
- Complies with Speech, Voice and Swallowing infection control measures and safety program; and maintains a safe and neat working environment.
- Provides high quality customer service.
- Maintains strict adherence to the Lahey Clinic Confidentiality Policy.
- Incorporates Lahey Clinic Guiding Principles, Mission Statement and Goals into daily activities.
- Complies with all Lahey Clinic Policies and behavioral expectations of the department.
- Maintains courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment.

- Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities.
- Participates in and successfully completes Mandatory Education.
- Performs all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology.
- Licensure by the state of Massachusetts; certification by American Speech-Language Hearing Association.
- Experience in a medical speech/language pathology setting.
Skills
- Ability to perform FEESST, MBS, standard testing for speech/language disorders, formal voice evaluations and alaryngeal speech, including TEP voice prosthesis placement.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
Key Relationships
- Patients: Provide care and counseling.
- Medical Director of Otolaryngology: Patient care initiative, maintain clinical programs, administrative tasks.
- Physicians: Provide orders and referrals for tests and treatments.
- Clinical Manager of Otolaryngology: Departmental programs, administrative tasks.
- Otolaryngology Support Staff: Patient care, departmental tasks.
- Appointment Coordinators/Central Appointment Office: Access to Speech, Voice and Swallowing schedules.
Pay
The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay: $38.50 - $53.90. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, including seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
