About the role
A speech-language pathologist (SLP), also known as a speech therapist, is a health professional who diagnoses and treats communication and swallowing problems. They work with both children and adults of all ages in clinics, schools, and hospitals. They can help if you or someone you love has a developmental disorder, neurological condition, or brain injury that affects your ability to communicate with other people. They also can help if you have trouble eating or drinking safely due to swallowing issues.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and treat communication and swallowing problems
- Work with both children and adults in various settings such as clinics, schools, and hospitals
- Help individuals with developmental disorders, neurological conditions, or brain injuries that affect communication
- Assist individuals with swallowing issues to ensure safe eating and drinking
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or related field
- Current license to practice as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the state of California
- Experience working with clients of all ages and backgrounds
Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent observational and diagnostic skills
