Speech & Debate Coach - Cardinal Newman High School

Responsibilities

• Coach speech and debate after school on a regular basis
• Take, supervise, and coach students at speech and debate competitions
• Judge and provide judges at local and national tournaments
• Work with the Director of Student Affairs to ensure all school policies and procedures are followed

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field is required; master’s degree is preferred
• Either extensive high speech & debate experience is required, or previous high school coaching experience is necessary
• Strong interpersonal skills and great customer service skills that will create an exciting activities program and promote student leadership
• Ability to work effectively with students and faculty/staff
• Excellent written, verbal and public speaking skills
• Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving capacity
• Strong ethical values

Required Skills/Abilities

• Strong public speaking skills and the ability to motivate students in this area
• Good organizational skills

Physical and Work Requirements

• Position will require after school time and some evening/weekend hours
• Frequent use both hands and fingers (i.e. typing)
• Frequent extended periods of sitting
• Occasional periods of standing, kneeling and climbing
• Occasional ability of minimal hearing (i.e. loud noises, sirens) and routine hearing (i.e. listening to others in conversation)
• Occasional time spent working closely with others
