SPED Self-Contained Teacher Assistant (Grades: 7-8)
About the role
This position assists the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays, maintaining a neat and orderly classroom, helping with inventory and equipment maintenance, keeping administrative records, assisting substitutes, supporting students with physical disabilities, providing orientation and assistance to substitutes, helping with classroom curriculum, managing student behavior, supervising students throughout the school day, and performing other tasks as assigned.
Responsibilities

- Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students
- Assist students with physical disabilities
- Assist students with physical needs and personal care

- Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned
Requirements
The successful candidate must have an accredited Senior High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S.A. equivalency), plus one of the following: Associate degree, 48 college credit hours, pass an academic assessment, paraprofessional certificate from State Board of Certification, or six months of knowledge and skills acquired through work experience. They should also have demonstrated general knowledge of child growth/development and behavior characteristics, the ability to work with people from diverse ethnic groups, organizational and interpersonal skills, initiative, effective communication skills, and the ability to work with children with disabilities. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred.
Qualifications
Demonstrated initiative and a willingness to follow verbal and written instructions, demonstrated effective communication skills both in oral and written form, and demonstrated ability to work with children with disabilities are required. The position requires regular and punctual attendance at the worksite and performing all duties at the worksite.
