Specimen Processor - Part Time

About the role
The Specimen Processor will perform specimen accessioning, sample sorting, and data entry in a fast-paced, high-throughput environment according to established standard operating procedures.
Responsibilities
- Introduce and prepare biological specimens for laboratory processing to ensure accuracy.
- Open specimens and pour into secondary containers for analysis and testing.
- Verify patient demographic information matches the test requisition form.
- Perform data entry of patient information into the computer system for tracking.
- Meet key production metrics and quality measures to ensure timely and accurate results.
- Unpack and route specimens to their respective staging areas.
- Pack and ship specimens to proper testing facilities when required.
- Properly prepare and store excess specimen samples.
- Resolve and document any problem specimens.
- Handle and dispose of medical and chemical waste.
- Comply with applicable environmental health and safety policies and procedures.
- Operate automated instrumentation under supervision if necessary.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (minimum qualification).
- 6 months or more of medical office, hospital high-volume data entry, or specimen processing (preferred).
- Proficient computer and typing skills.
- Able to pass a standardized color blindness test.
- Comfortable handling human biological specimens including blood, urine, and tissue samples.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, work in protective equipment, and sit/stand for long periods.
- Strong eye-hand coordination to accurately identify specimens by touch and sight.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Flexibility to work overtime as needed.
- Exceptional customer service and strong communication skills (written and verbal).
- Comfortable working under minimal supervision.
Schedule
- Monday (Onamia): 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
- Tuesday (Hinckley): 12:00 pm – 4:30 pm
- Thursday (Onamia): 10:30 am – 5:00 pm (includes a 30-minute lunch)
- 13.5 hours per week
Pay
Pay Range: $17.75 to $25.07 per hour. All job offers will be based on a candidate’s skills, prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data.

Employees regularly scheduled to work less than 20 hours per week are eligible to participate in the 401(k) Plan only. Employees on a 7-on/7-off schedule receive all benefits except PTO or FTO.
