Specimen Processing Services Specialist II - Per Diem
Overview
Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Located in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington. Known for its leadership in bone marrow transplantation, HIV/AIDS prevention, immunotherapy, and COVID-19 vaccines, Fred Hutch operates eight clinical care sites and network affiliations with hospitals in five states. Together, the fully integrated research and clinical care teams aim to discover new cures and improve life beyond cancer.
Responsibilities
- Performs specimen processing of laboratory samples, including centrifugation, aliquoting, and dispensing specimens to proper lab processing and sending out sites.
- Participates in Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance programs and projects, recording variances of standard policies and procedures in Patient Safety Net accurately and where required.
- May include Patient Service Representative duties.
- Aids in coordinating daily workflow.
- Trains and mentors new employees.
- Assists with troubleshooting and collaborating with other departments to resolve issues.
- Participates in department and/or Fred Hutch process improvement initiatives.
- May assist with bone marrow assistant duties and/or Transfusion Service Support function.
- Communicates verbally in person, on the phone, and in writing in a clear, concise, and professional manner.
- Organizes and manages time and tasks independently.
- Uses MS Word and Excel proficiently.
- Passes a standardized color vision screen to perform this role.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Competency as Tech I or minimum of one year work experience in a laboratory environment.
- WA State MA/Phlebotomist certification for Phlebotomist role.
- WA State Surgical Tech registration required if assisting with bone marrow collection.
- Ability to communicate verbally in person, on the phone, and in writing in a clear, concise and professional manner.
- Ability to organize and manage time and tasks independently.
- Proficient in the use of email and data entry in a Windows-based environment.
- Demonstrates initiative as evidenced by advancing technical skills, sharing knowledge with others, and taking on more responsibility.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of phlebotomy training course.
- Intermediate ability with MS Word and Excel.
Required Qualifications

Pay
The hourly pay range for this position is from $29.57 to $42.13, which includes the per diem differential, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
Schedule
Per Diem - Fully Onsite - Sunday through following Saturday - variable schedule based on department needs.
