About the role

The Specimen Management Coordinator plays a crucial role in the phlebotomy lab central processing department. You will oversee workflow, balance workloads, and assist with staff training and dispatching. Additionally, you will ensure accurate patient identification, perform phlebotomy, troubleshoot and reconcile specimen ordering and processing issues, monitor send-out processing, resolve overdue results, and communicate effectively across shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain smooth department workflow and balance workload
  • Aid in staff training and dispatching
  • Achieve accurate patient identification and perform phlebotomy
  • Troubleshoot and reconcile specimen ordering and processing issues
  • Monitor send-out processing, pending lists, and overdue results
  • Utilize effective communication techniques within and across shifts
  • Support quality monitoring and improvement initiatives within the lab and other departments

Requirements

  • 3 years phlebotomy experience
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Ability to complete all duties required of a PTA including charting and documentation

Preferred

  • Laboratory Assistant Program certification
  • Phlebotomy certificate

Pay

The posted compensation range for this position is $17.96 - $24.35 per hour, reflecting the lowest and highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting.

Schedule

This role operates on a full-time schedule with 80 hours per pay period, working a 6:00 AM - 17:00 PM shift, Monday through Friday.
