Job Overview The Specimen Collector is responsible for the accurate and professional collection of patient specimens in physician offices and clinical environments. Specimens may include urine, oral fluid, and blood samples depending on the needs of the assigned clinic location.This role ensures the integrity of all specimens collected by following established Ethos protocols and regulatory requirements. The Specimen Collector also assists with requisition completion, patient information verification, specimen preparation for shipment, and data entry into electronic systems as needed.The position requires strong attention to detail, professionalism in patient-facing environments, and the ability to work independently under remote supervision. Requirements Essential Responsibilities Collect patient specimens including urine and oral fluid samples in accordance with Ethos proceduresPerform anterior nasal swabs for COVID-19 testing when required by clinic accountsPerform blood specimen collection via venipuncture when applicable to assigned locationsFollow established patient identification and specimen collection protocolsMaintain specimen integrity by following Ethos standard operating procedures and reference materialsComplete and verify laboratory requisition forms and associated documentationLabel and package specimens appropriately for transport to the laboratoryTrack collected specimens by completing required documentation including initials and collection date/timeEnter patient information into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) or EMR when requiredCoordinate with clinic staff to obtain any missing patient or order informationMaintain a safe, secure, and clean working environment while adhering to compliance standardsRepresent Ethos professionally when interacting with patients, providers, and clinic staffParticipate in required training programs and continuing education opportunitiesComplete assigned computer-based learning modules and maintain competency documentationPartner with Regional and Territory Managers to support clinic workflows and specimen collection protocolsPerform other duties related to specimen collection and field operations as assigned Professional Requirements Regular and reliable attendanceWillingness to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when requiredExcellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks efficientlyAbility to maintain strict confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulationsStrong interpersonal and patient care skillsAbility to work independently under remote supervisionDemonstrated professionalism and disciplined work ethicProficiency with Microsoft Office applicationsAbility and willingness to perform multiple types of specimen collectionsAbility to work effectively with clinic staff and Ethos team members Education And Experience High school diploma or GED requiredPrior specimen collection, laboratory, or medical experience preferred but not requiredExperience in customer service, logistics, or data entry environments preferredReliable transportation requiredAdditional training may be provided if new testing services are introduced at client locations Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Strong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work within established procedures, policies, and compliance guidelinesHigh level of accuracy and attention to detail when completing documentation and specimen handlingAbility to pass a criminal background check and drug screeningComfortable utilizing technology to perform work functions in a remote environment, including mobile applications and online training systems Physical Requirements Work in environments with varying temperatures (heated or air-conditioned clinical environments)Ability to sit, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive hand movementsAbility to handle specimens and materials in a clinical environmentPosition involves exposure to normal bodily fluids and biohazard materials in a healthcare settingAbility to see, hear, speak, and interact effectively in patient-facing environments Direct Reports: None Equal Opportunity Employer Ethos Laboratories is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce.
