About the role

The Specialty Unit Staff RN - CVICU leads the health care team, providing professional nursing care according to established standards. The role involves using the nursing process, demonstrating leadership, and ensuring patient safety and optimal care.

Responsibilities

  • Delegates tasks appropriately and demonstrates accountability.
  • Understands and supports team members’ scopes of practice.
  • Champions new ideas and leads the team through changes.
  • Mentors and coaches others in unit-specific operations and patient care.
  • Shares responsibility and holds subordinates accountable for performance.
  • Collaborates with other departments to assist with member problem resolution.
  • Prioritizes, delegates, and supervises work assignments to ensure completion of patient care activities.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, policies, and standards of practice.
  • Develops and implements individualized plans of care reflecting assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Monitors patient progress and revises plans based on evaluation.
  • Ensures patient safety, including medication administration, patient falls, decubitus prevention, and infection control.
  • Ensures optimal pain control and patient comfort, addressing patient anxieties and concerns.
  • Ensures patients understand medication purposes, side effects, and administration instructions.
  • Documents accurately, legibly, dated, and timed, reflecting the nursing process and interventions.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities and validates departmental competency.
  • Discusses patient findings and progress with physicians and other healthcare team members.
  • Adheres to LMP Workplace Safety principles and maintains a safe environment.
  • Provides courteous, respectful, and compassionate care to patients and families.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly, and functional work environment.
  • Supports a collaborative Labor-Management Partnership environment through unit-based teams.
  • Organizes work to minimize overtime and identifies systems for simplification or correction.
  • Utilizes payroll and non-payroll resources effectively.

Requirements

  • 1-year recent (within the last 3 years) full-time equivalent experience in a Cardiovascular ICU or completion of a Kaiser Permanente or equivalent CVICU course within the past 12 months.
  • Registered Nurse License (California).
  • Basic Life Support from American Heart Association.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support.

Schedule

This is a night shift per diem position. Minimum eight 12-hour shifts per quarter with four being weekend shifts.
