Duties and Responsibilities
- Proactively engage and make a connection with customers.
- Asking questions and listening to customer needs.
- Directing customers to merchandise, informing them about upcoming events, promotions, mobile offers, and STAR card.
- Providing premier customer service.
- Cooperating and building positive, inclusive, and respectful relationships, taking accountability for your own actions and outcomes.
- Using specific knowledge to demonstrate product features and provide comparisons with similar products.
- When selling clothing or military uniforms, may be required to take upper and lower body measurements for the purpose of ensuring proper fit of tailored articles.
- Maintaining store appearance.
- Selling products and knowing the layout of the store.
- Making suggestions to customers on latest trends and current promotions based on customer's individual needs.
- Upselling products.
- Leveraging company tools and technology to confidently provide the customer with product knowledge, features, and specifications.
- Using a Point-of-Sales system to process cash exchanges, discounts, gift cards, credit cards, debit cards, and cash handling, including counting money and returning accurate amounts to the customer.
- Completing various forms of paperwork, reports, and reconciliation.
- Handling special order merchandise requests, including ordering, tracking, and providing updates to customers.
- Maintaining merchandise by completing all inventory processes and ensuring merchandise is properly checked in and accurately ticketed.
- May participate in periodic inventories.
- Adhering to assigned work schedule.
- Accurately and completely following through on work assignments.
Qualifications
- Product Knowledge: In-depth technical knowledge of how products work, warranties, and ability to compare products by features.
- Experience: 1-2 years of retail or relevant work experience required; 6 months of product-specific experience required.
- Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including reading, writing, and interpreting instructional documents, communicating on the telephone with proper etiquette.
- Mathematical Skills: Basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; ability to use a calculator and calculate percentages and ratios.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to multi-task while being attentive to customers and remaining flexible to the needs of the business; ability to work as part of a team and take initiative independently of direct supervision; ability to understand and problem-solve customer needs.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Constant moving, talking, hearing, reaching, grabbing, and standing for at least two consecutive hours.
- May occasionally involve stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders.
- Vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Involves lifting at least 25 lbs. and up to 50 lbs. in some departments.
- Work typically performed indoors but may be assigned outdoors depending upon location.

Work Hours
- Available to work a variety of hours which may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
General Experience
- 6 months of responsible experience in clerical office or retail sales store work, demonstrating the ability to perform satisfactorily in the position to be filled.
Substitution of Education for Experience
- Graduation from a full 4-year or senior high school or possession of a General Education Development (GED) High School Equivalency Certificate may be substituted for the experience requirements.
