About the role

This is a field-based position; candidates should live within a reasonable distance from the primary city. The role focuses on executing brand strategy and tactics in the field, driving sales performance, managing assigned territory and targeted accounts, building strong customer relationships, and addressing customer needs to maximize sales performance—all while placing the patient at the center of efforts and adhering to AbbVie’s business code of conduct, policies, and applicable laws.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver sales performance, brand KPIs, financial targets, and marketing objectives to meet or exceed goals.
  • Create pre-call plan objectives and execute post-call evaluations to continuously improve sales performance.
  • Effectively handle objections, misunderstandings, and concerns, consistently gaining logical and reasonable calls to action to close every sales call.
  • Proactively and continuously serve customer needs, expectations, and challenges to build trusted relationships and achieve win-win agreements.
  • Develop and execute a call plan that achieves set call metrics and optimizes coverage and frequency to key customers to maximize access and sales opportunities.
  • Continuously build understanding of customer needs, territory market landscape, competitors, market segments/dynamics, accounts, disease, product, clinical, and sales expertise. Share this market intelligence with the in-field team, brand team, and sales manager to align efforts, anticipate environmental changes, and optimize brand strategy execution.
  • Differentiate AbbVie’s value proposition with assigned healthcare providers and identify, develop, and maintain disease state experts and speakers/advocates to maximize brand performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in health, sciences, pharmacy, or a business-related field preferred. Relevant and equivalent industry experience may substitute for the degree.
  • In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, at least five (5) years of relevant industry experience is required, with three (3) or more years in the pharmaceutical, health, or science industry preferred. A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Proactively identifies customer style/behavior and quickly adapts selling approach. Understands and leverages findings to develop sales strategies.
  • Operates effectively in a matrix environment, offering innovative ideas and solutions to maximize business opportunities and address challenges.
  • Demonstrates in-depth scientific, therapeutic, product, and competitive knowledge, recognized as an expert resource by stakeholders. Strong business acumen and strategic thinking capabilities.
  • Influences others and is viewed as a credible and respected role model among peers. Builds collaborative partnerships with district colleagues and matrix teams.
  • Leads by example, displaying positive behaviors and peer coaching through changing and challenging environments. Documented success in leadership or support roles of increased responsibility at the district, region, or organizational levels.
  • Preferred: Proven track record of success in sales performance within respective therapeutic areas. Commercial pharmaceutical industry experience such as physician/account-based selling, training, managed healthcare, or marketing.
  • English language proficiency (verbal and written) for all non-English speaking countries.

An essential requirement is satisfying all applicable healthcare industry representative (HCIR) credentialing requirements to gain and maintain entry into facilities in your assigned territory. These may include background checks, drug screens, proof of immunization/vaccination, fingerprinting, and specific state or city licenses. You are solely responsible for ensuring compliance with these requirements.

  • Valid driver’s license; ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening test and meet safe driving requirements. Driving a personal auto, company car/truck, or powered material handling equipment may be required.
