Specialty Pharmacist-Onsite

Provides integrated support to patients and physicians through a hands-on approach to total quality patient care, coordinating across specialty and retail services to ensure seamless patient transitions and timely access to medications. The pharmacist manages both retail and specialty pharmacy operations, ensuring safe and effective dispensing of medications while providing patient counseling and clinical support.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and dispenses medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders; detecting therapeutic incompatibilities.
• Performs medication therapy management, including reviewing and monitoring medication regimens, advising clinicians on evidence-based therapy, and documenting interventions.
• Completes pharmacy operational requirements by organizing and directing technicians' work flow; verifying preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals; verifying prescriptions.
• Coordinates care, identifies and resolves insurance-related issues, and recognizes situations where financial assistance can be applied.
• Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state Board of Pharmacy, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and local policies and procedures.
• Maintains records for controlled substances; removes outdated and damaged drugs from inventory; supervises support personnel; studies existing and new legislation; advises management on needed actions.
• Ensures adherence to all regulatory requirements, including 340B program compliance, specialty pharmacy accreditation, and medication safety protocols.
• Makes referrals to other health professionals as necessary.
• Develops own knowledge by participating in education programs; training pharmacy staff, students, interns, externs, residents, and health care professionals.
• Manages, organizes, and updates relevant data using database applications.
• Applies observations and recommendations to operational issues to increase productivity, quality, and customer-service standards.
• Identifies trends, resolves problems, recommends improvements, implements change, and participates in process improvement initiatives.
• Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or BS in Pharmacy and licensed as a Pharmacist in the applicable state.
• 1+ years of experience in a retail or specialty dispensing setting (5+ years preferred).
• Strong verbal communication skills and deep knowledge of pharmacology developments and FDA health regulations.
• Ability to manage processes, exhibit strong technical and clinical skills, and lead and manage people.
• Highly productive, quality-focused, with maniacal attention to detail and legal compliance.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for communication, documentation, and data management.
• Skilled in navigating the internet and web-based platforms; data entry and computer skills will be evaluated through a pre-employment assessment.
