Specialty Nurse, Orthopedics

About the role

The Specialty Nurse, Orthopedics, will join the Nemours Children’s Health team in Wilmington, DE. This position involves specialized nursing practice, working closely with providers and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care.

Responsibilities

• Participate in phone triage and scheduling questions
• Manage insurance authorization and communicate with families through Nemours portal messages
• Provide and evaluate nursing care based on the nursing process
• Engage in patient and family education regarding common Orthopedic diagnoses and surgeries
• Assess and evaluate patient progress, revising the interdisciplinary plan of care
• Identify and address patient/family needs for further resources and initiate appropriate teaching and referrals
• Communicate with families and members of the health care team
• Utilize specialized knowledge and technical skills in nursing practice related to Orthopedics
• Participate in the development of standards of care for the specialty patient population
• Collaborate with the Nursing Education Department to share subspecialty knowledge with nursing staff
• Participate in Quality/Process Assessment and Improvement initiatives

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• Active Delaware (or compact state) Registered Nurse License
• One to three years of pediatric nursing experience required
