About the role
This role involves reviewing complex referral requests and assigning appropriate specialists. Key responsibilities include understanding patient needs, coordinating care, and communicating with patients and providers.Responsibilities
- Reviews referral information from clinicians for pertinent details.
- Evaluates and assigns appropriate specialists for patients.
- Interviews patients to gather full understanding of referral requests.
- Works closely with Specialty Nurses for safe clinical handoffs.
- Schedules patients for tests, consultations, and procedures.
- Communicates with physicians and clinicians for authorization.
- Explains insurance benefits and options to patients.
- Assists in resolving billing and denied referral matters.
- Supports roles within the Navigator team.
- Participates in problem-solving activities.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED.
- 2+ years of scheduling experience in a medical office setting.
- Beginner level proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Resides in Massachusetts.
- Ability to work onsite 1 day per week at 1177 Boston Providence Hwy, Norwood, MA 02062.
Qualifications
- Experience working within the health care industry and with health care insurance.
- Experience working in a hospital, physician's office, or medical clinic setting.
- Previous experience with procedure scheduling.
- Previous experience with EPIC.
- A clerical or administrative support background.
- Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT codes.
