About the role
The Domestic Transportation Specialist executes safe, reliable, and cost-efficient transportation of ophthalmic equipment across the U.S. network. This role ensures on-time delivery, manages daily operations (parcel, LTL, FTL), and collaborates with carriers and internal teams to maintain high-performing transportation processes.
Responsibilities
- Execute daily transportation planning and shipment creation for parcel, LTL, and FTL.
- Coordinate pickups, deliveries, and special requirements for sensitive medical instruments.
- Monitor shipment status and proactively resolve delivery exceptions, delays, or damages.
- Serve as first-line contact for carriers to resolve operational issues and monitor performance (OTD, compliance).
- Track transportation KPIs (cost, claims, service levels) and update dashboards to identify improvements.
- Ensure all inventory is accurately moved between system locations in Microsoft Great Plains, especially for In Transit Transfers and shipping exceptions or inversions.
- Manage transportation claims, including shortages, damages, and inventory discrepancies.
- Support transportation for trade shows, customer demos, and field service deployment.
- Oversee unloading/loading activities at the Xdock center to prevent inventory stalls at regional locations.
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, reduce costs, and improve delivery reliability.
- Collaborate cross-functionally (Sales, Service, Supply Chain, IT) to enhance end-to-end performance.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Transportation Manager.
Requirements
- 2+ years of transportation or supply chain experience.
- Strong understanding of domestic modes (Parcel, LTL, FTL).
- Highly organized and detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, or Logistics.
- Experience with medical devices or high-value/sensitive equipment shipments.
- Experience using TMS (Infoship, Starship) and ERP (SAP/Microsoft Great Plains).
- Exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
- Familiarity with carrier claims and transportation compliance.
