About the role

The mission of the UCSF Sarcoma Initiative is to support the development of the next generation of cellular therapies to treat sarcomas. The Roybal Lab engages in translational research in partnership with research groups at UCSF to develop cutting-edge engineered T cell therapeutics and prepare them for the clinic, as well as develop novel cell technologies for future therapeutic solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform experimental work on protein engineering, primary human T cell culture, viral and non-viral transductions, and mouse tumor models.
  • Contribute to the development of novel assay and protocol creation.
  • Validate in vitro T cell circuit designs.
  • Establish in vivo tumor models.
  • Compile pre-clinical results to support clinical vector design.
  • Collaborate with a process development team to characterize therapeutic product candidates in vitro and in vivo.
  • Work with other staff in the Roybal Lab and collaborators to develop necessary assays, protocols, and SOPs.
  • Execute experimental work, analyze data, and present findings in progress reports.

Requirements

  • Junior Specialist: Baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience.
  • Assistant Specialist: Master’s degree or a baccalaureate degree with 3 or more years of research experience.
  • Associate Specialist: Master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of experience in the relevant specialization.
  • Full Specialist: Terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of experience in the relevant specialization.

Qualifications

  • Primary immune cell culture.
  • Tumor cell culture.
  • Flow cytometry.
  • Experimental design and data analysis.
  • Tumor and T cell injections.
  • Tumor growth measurements (bioluminescence or caliper).
  • Collection of T cells and tumor cells from mouse blood, tissues, and tumors.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Multi-colored flow cytometry and cell sorting experience.
  • T cell assay experience (ELISAs, proliferation, cytotoxicity by incucyte etc.).
  • Human immune cell engineering with viral and non-viral approaches.
  • Experience contributing to translational projects and/or INDs.
  • Experience creating and giving data presentations.

Salary Range

A reasonable estimate for this position is $55,000 - $194,800.
