About the role

This role is for an SCI Specialist Nurse based in the North West of England Region. The role is permanent, 21 hours per week (0.6 FTE), working Monday to Friday with agreed hours.

Responsibilities

  • Support individuals with newly acquired spinal cord injuries who are not admitted into specialist services.
  • Provide expert guidance, advocacy and reassurance to individuals with established SCI who return to hospital for treatment unrelated to their impairment.
  • Work closely with hospital teams to ensure best practice standards are met.
  • Educate and empower healthcare professionals in non-specialist settings through training and learning programmes.
  • Support individuals through elements of the NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) process, including attendance at reviews or appeals.
  • Contribute to evaluating and developing the SCI Specialist Nurse service, contributing to monitoring processes and shaping the future of SCI support across the UK.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in a spinal cord injury setting or similar.
  • Expertise in spinal cord injury nursing.

Qualifications

  • Registered nurse with a current license to practice.
  • Experience in managing complex cases related to spinal cord injuries.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and guidelines for spinal cord injury care.

Skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficiency in using digital tools for remote consultations and documentation.

Pay

£49,193 per annum, pro rata (£29,516 per annum, actual for 21 hours per week).

Schedule

Monday to Friday, hours of work to be agreed.
