Specialist Mental Health Nurse - Community Mental Health Team
About the role
The role involves working as a Specialist Mental Health Nurse within the South Glasgow Child and Adolescent Community Mental Health Service (CAMHS) at the Gorbals Health & Care Centre. You will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating complex care programs for patients requiring specialist mental health care.
Responsibilities
- Functioning as a Named Nurse/Named Practitioner within a multi-disciplinary team for a complex patient caseload requiring specialist mental health care, undertaking named practitioner responsibilities for patients requiring care coordination where required.
- Carrying out holistic assessments of complex care needs including risk assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating specialist programs of care.
- Administering prescribed medication/treatments in compliance with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) policy; monitoring effectiveness of prescribed treatments; monitoring and managing unwanted side effects.
- Working in partnership with patients and carers using values-based practice to deliver person-centred care promoting and supporting mental well-being and preventing relapse.
- Developing therapeutic relationships with patients and carers with complex/unstable care needs ensuring that needs are identified and met within a participative framework demonstrating principles of equality, dignity, and respect accounting for spiritual and cultural diversity. Working proactively with other agencies/services (e.g., interpreter services) to aid effective communication.
- Undertaking evidence-based psychological therapies/psychological approaches to care with individuals and/or group settings.
- Working flexibly and prioritizing workload, delegating appropriately, and managing safe person-centred care without direct supervision.
- Forming therapeutic professional relationships and working as a member of the wider team.
- Using digital technology/information systems/email and basic applications.
Requirements
- Registered Mental Health Nurse or RNLD – level 1 NMC registration
- Educated to minimum degree level or equivalent
- Completion of an evidence-based psychological therapies/psychological approaches to care formal program of study
- Actively working towards postgraduate level or equivalent
- Specialist knowledge and application of mental health nursing care (including physical healthcare)
- Specialist knowledge and application of risk assessment/factors impacting on mental health/mental illness/wellbeing and recovery
- Evidence of active and ongoing CPD
- Evidence of Clinical Supervision/reflective practice as a supervisor
- Specialist knowledge of rights, values-based practice and legislation frameworks
- Evidence of using digital technology/information systems/email and basic applications
- Ability to work flexibly and prioritize workload, delegate appropriately and manage safe person-centred care without direct supervision
- Ability to form therapeutic professional relationships and work as a member of the wider team
- Working knowledge and demonstrable evidence of the NMC Code
- Experience of working in the community environment
- Experience of care coordination
Qualifications and/or experience
- Essential: Registered Mental Health Nurse or RNLD – level 1 NMC registration, Educated to minimum degree level or equivalent, Completion of an evidence-based psychological therapies/psychological approaches to care formal program of study, Actively working towards postgraduate level or equivalent, Specialist knowledge and application of mental health nursing care (including physical healthcare), Specialist knowledge and application of risk assessment/factors impacting on mental health/mental illness/wellbeing and recovery, Evidence of active and ongoing CPD, Evidence of Clinical Supervision/reflective practice as a supervisor, Specialist knowledge of rights, values-based practice and legislation frameworks, Evidence of using digital technology/information systems/email and basic applications, Ability to work flexibly and prioritize workload, delegate appropriately and manage safe person-centred care without direct supervision, Ability to form therapeutic professional relationships and work as a member of the wider team, Working knowledge and demonstrable evidence of the NMC Code, Ability to undertake a number of clinical contacts in a home/near-home environment on a daily basis, including driving where required
- Desirable: Completion of a recognised mentorship preparation program/registered mentor, CMWN Career Development Framework evidence of pillars of practice at Level 6 Senior Practitioner (equivalent): Clinical practice, Facilitation of learning, Leadership – applied, Research and development

Pay
The salary is Pro Rata for part-time hours.
