Specialist II, Financial Clearance
Description
This position is responsible for the financial clearance, registration, and collection of point of service fees for all hospital related services. Ensures that information is accurately presented to third party payers or guarantors and minimizes errors that would result in penalties or other delays in payment to the hospital. Ensures cash reconciliation and submission activities are completed according to department/hospital policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Performs registrations, insurance verification, and billing for all hospital related services.
- Collects point of service fees and ensures accurate information is provided to third party payers or guarantors.
- Minimizes errors that could lead to penalties or delays in payment to the hospital.
- Completes cash reconciliation and submission activities in accordance with department/hospital policies and procedures.
- Performs audit functions, including data retrieval and review, error identification and correction, documentation, and display of data in a concise, understandable format.
- Identifies trends and recommends process/system improvements.
- Manages multiple workplace demands and sets realistic priorities related to the overall operations and workflow of the hospital and Medical Staff.
- Utilizes excellent problem-solving and conflict management skills to make decisions and judgments that impact the operations and workflow of the hospital and Medical Staff.
Requirements
- Minimum of two years' experience performing registrations, insurance verification, and billing in a hospital and/or other health care settings.
- Insurance verification experience preferred.
- Firm understanding of medical terminology, ICD-10 and COT coding.
- Proficiency in computer and data entry skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two-year college degree or equivalent experience preferred, not required.
- Professional Certification through AAHAM, NAHAM or HFMA preferred, not required.

- Ability to set and organize own work priorities and adapt to changing work priorities.
- Ability to work concurrently on a variety of tasks/projects in a stressful environment.

Pay
Pay Range: $19.58 - $28.41 Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
Schedule
Position is part-time, working evening shifts.
