About the role

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers a fantastic opportunity for an aspiring, customer-focused Electrical Craftsperson to be based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, service and repair the full range of estates specialist equipment, plant and infrastructure.
  • Provide technical advice to other estates maintenance staff and contractors to ensure compliance with safety standards and procedures.
  • In the role of Competent Person, as defined by Health Technical Memorandum, for the Electrical Distribution (LV) system.
  • Undertake condition surveys, evaluate inspection reports.

Requirements

  • Essential: BTEC, HNC/HND Approved Apprenticeship, City and Guilds or NVQ 3, Technicians Certificate or equivalent qualifications in relevant topic.
  • Essential: Comprehensive post apprenticeship experience.
  • Essential: Experience of working in an industrial environment.
  • Essential: Expertise and a full understanding of electrical services and electrical control systems in a healthcare environment.
  • Essential: Thorough working knowledge of Building Management Systems.
  • Essential: Detailed working knowledge of Electrical Distribution (LV), Fire Alarm Systems, Emergency Lighting Systems, IPS/UPS, Standby Electrical Generation Systems.
  • Able to make workload assessments and allocation.
  • Able to evaluate and solve problems in situ.
  • Able to communicate verbally by phone and in writing to Senior Management and clinical users throughout the Trust.
  • PC and IT literate.
  • Able to use tools and test equipment.

Qualifications & Education

  • Essential: Qualified in relevant topic through a recognised electrical engineering apprenticeship.
  • Desirable: Fire alarms, control systems, Level 3 qualification in inspection, testing and initial verification, Experience in a hospital maintenance environment.
  • Desirable: Understanding of mechanical systems.

Skills & Abilities

  • Essential: Fit and mobile.
  • Essential: Ability to evaluate and solve problems in situ.
  • Essential: Ability to communicate verbally by phone and in writing to Senior Management and clinical users throughout the Trust.
  • Essential: PC and IT literate.
  • Essential: Ability to use tools and test equipment.
