Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., literature, language, journalism) or equivalent certification/on‑the‑job training.
- Minimum of three years' editorial experience and two years' experience in educational assessment.
- Comprehensive editorial expertise: demonstrates strong end‑to‑end copyediting proficiency (spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, diction, and usage); interprets and applies major style references (e.g., Chicago Manual of Style, Gregg Reference Manual, Garner's Modern English Usage).
- Technical & software skills: proficient with Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office 365 apps (Word, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, Excel); understands HTML/XML basics for web publishing and adapts to evolving software.
- Communication & collaboration: communicates clearly and respectfully; gives and receives feedback constructively; accepts direction and acts on it.
- Professional behaviors & judgment: reliable, organized, and self‑managed; exercises sound judgment; accountable for quality; demonstrates decency, professionalism, and curiosity.
Responsibilities
- Core editorial responsibilities: implements grammar, spelling, usage, punctuation, syntax, and style per standards; ensures consistency; exercises good judgment with client style guidelines; understands copyeditor scope and flags concerns; proactively seeks learning opportunities.
- Quality assurance & risk awareness: adheres to QA/QC steps; recognizes impact of errors on validity and reputation; understands copyright law application in assessment and escalates concerns.
- Assessment & content understanding: understands educational assessment foundations (content standards, alignment, validity, item‑level statistics); considers assessment design interactions; demonstrates knowledge of accessibility and universal design best practices.
- Technical platforms & publishing: uses Pearson‑preferred applications (e.g., ABBI, eStyle, Oracle) and understands publishing workflows; identifies job aids and may develop training for colleagues.
- Collaboration & community: assists with staff training and mentoring; works collegially across Editorial, Asset Services, Content, CDS, and Pearson; contributes to cross‑functional initiatives.
- Leadership & project coordination: serves as lead editor when assigned; creates training documents and work logs; coordinates editors' work and monitors schedules; makes final editorial decisions and escalates issues; provides guidance to other lead editors.
- AI‑enabled editorial use: leverages AI tools to develop, review, and enhance assessment content; demonstrates proficiency in prompting, refining, and evaluating AI outputs with sound editorial judgment; stays current with emerging AI technologies.
- Professional responsibilities & operational excellence: aligns with CDS and Pearson goals; attends meetings and completes administrative tasks; supports efficiency initiatives; identifies problems and balances cost, efficiency, schedule, and quality; champions new technology and processes; maintains appropriate business behaviors.
Pay
Hourly rate: $24.70 – $29.56. This position is not bonus eligible.
