Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Office of Inspector General Lieutenant, performs statewide, national, and international investigations of highly complex nature involving multiple criminal offenses, working with a high degree of independence. Reviews allegations, complaints or other information to determine criminal offenses that may have been committed. Conducts investigations, including but not limited to; theft, fraud, embezzlement, forgery, conspiracy, fraudulent schemes, political corruption, etc. Confers with prosecuting attorneys regarding progress of investigations, quality of case files and evidence, drafts subpoenas, warrants, etc. Prepares affidavits to obtain search warrants, arrest warrants, wiretaps, physical characteristic court orders.

Job Duties

  • Reviewing information and documents; monitor, triage, analyzing data, planning case strategy, maintaining case files and evidence; preparing case reports.
  • Assigning incoming tips and leads.
  • Performing administrative duties to assist ECD and OIG leadership.
  • Maintaining and answering a company provided cell phone.
  • Interviewing victims, witnesses and suspects on the phone or in person.
  • Traveling as required, including state, interstate and international that may require overnight stay.
  • Engaging in undercover investigation operations, conducting surveillance of case suspects, investigative activity with other local, state and federal agencies.
  • Preparing and serving search warrants; conducting searches; seizing and securing evidence.
  • Serving arrest warrants; physically arresting suspects and booking suspects into jail.
  • Supporting OIG detectives with investigations and managing low-level cases as workload permits.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

  • Pertinent State and Federal motor vehicle laws, rules and regulations.
  • Modern law enforcement methods, best practices and procedures.
  • Search and Seizure rules of evidence and custody of prisoners.
  • Defensive tactics.
  • First Aid, CPR.
  • Court systems, procedures and protocols.
  • Activity reporting and accounting procedures established for the work system.
  • Principles of report writing.
  • Having previously served as a certified peace officer in Arizona, another state, or federal agency, and meet all of the minimum qualifications for certification as an Arizona Peace Officer.

Pre-Employment Requirements

  • AZPOST Full Authority certifications.
  • Weapons certified in accordance with AZPOST standards.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Minimum of 3-years in an investigative or detective unit.
