Responsibilities

  • Operates motor-driven equipment (sweepers, trucks, snow fighters, front-end loaders, backhoes) safely and properly to perform assigned work.
  • Loads and unloads trucks; picks up and hauls material; plows and sands highways.
  • Greases, oils, cleans equipment, and performs minor maintenance.
  • Performs unskilled labor duties, including:
    • Digging holes, trenches, and other excavations.
    • Shoveling materials and leveling areas.
    • Operating jackhammers and compaction equipment.
    • Loading and unloading materials.
    • Emptying barrels and cleaning litter/debris from streets, runways, and parking lots.
    • Mowing grass, trimming shrubs/small trees using hand or powered equipment.
    • Removing snow/ice using manual or small powered equipment; spreading sand on icy areas.
    • Using small hand tools (shovels, picks, axes, saws, heavy wrenches) and small power tools.
  • Performs all other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Ability to receive and interpret written/verbal instructions and provide written/verbal reports to supervisors.
  • Ability to use tools of the trade in a workmanlike manner.
  • Valid Class B Massachusetts motor vehicle operator’s license with CDL.
  • Valid Hoist Engineer Class 2B License or ability to obtain within 120 days of appointment.
  • Safe driving record; subject to yearly Motor Vehicle Record/Driver’s License check.
  • Good health and capability for hard physical work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Proven history of dependability.
  • Must pass a practical test.
  • Computer literate or willing to train on technology used for the job.

Work Environment

Work requires agility and physical strength, ability to function in close quarters, and is subject to outside environmental conditions, including wet, hot, and cold weather. Worker is exposed to noise, vibrations, hazards, and atmospheric conditions such as fumes, dust, and air contaminants. Work involves moving in, about, or over rough terrain, or standing/walking for most of the work period.

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Physical Skills: Frequently required to bend, crawl, sit, talk, move about, hear, and speak. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and greater than 50 pounds using appropriate equipment. Exposed to outside weather conditions and high noise levels when operating power equipment.
  • Motor Skills: Regularly required to use written/oral communication, read/interpret data, analyze/solve problems, use math/reasoning, observe/interpret situations, learn/apply new information, work under deadlines with interruptions, and interact with staff. Tasks require balancing, pushing, pulling, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motion.
  • Visual Skills: Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Must properly use safety equipment to prevent injury and ensure visual acuity for operating motor vehicles and heavy equipment.

Pay

$1,305.65 per week

Schedule

7:30 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday
