Special Education Tutor - Core Subjects

About the role

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Special Education Tutor to provide in-person academic support for a middle school student with diverse learning needs. The tutor will focus on strengthening foundational literacy and math skills, while also supporting learning across core academic subjects.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized academic tutoring in reading, writing, and math, with additional support in science and social studies as needed
• Focus on foundational literacy skills, including phonics, fluency, and reading comprehension
• Support foundational math development, including multiplication and multi-digit addition and subtraction
• Create structured lessons with clear routines, redirection, and positive reinforcement strategies
• Implement reward systems and engagement strategies to maintain focus and motivation
• Maintain a calm and supportive learning environment during moments of dysregulation
• Communicate with the student's parent regarding progress and session updates

Qualifications

• Experience working with Special Education (SPED) students
• Strong background in foundational reading and math instruction
• Patient, adaptable, and skilled in managing behavioral and attention challenges
• Ability to create a supportive and structured learning environment
• Spanish communication skills (basic or conversational) preferred to support communication with the parent
